Scarce live recording from the early postwar European avant garde, documenting a fantastic late 1950s concert of Boulez' Domaine Musical society at a time when these young composers were exploding the ideas of serialism and atonality into a newer and more radically experimental music. This album contains one of David Tudor's earliest recordings, performing the Stockhausen piece. The Boulez and Pousseur are played by Alfons and Aloys Kontarsky, and the Kagel is conducted by Boulez. Vega's Presence de la musique contemporaine was probably the first series dedicated to issuing this new avant garde on LP, also releasing recordings of Luigi Nono, Andre Jolivet, Luciano Berio, Olivier Messiaen, and Anton Webern.
